The Piedmont region
Piedmont, meaning ‘land at the foot of the mountains’, is Italy’s largest and most north-westerly province, stretching from the Western Alps down to the Ligurian sea. The culture in this region is as typically distinctive as the scenery, and the superlative products cultivated in these fertile soils are equally unique.

The climate
The Alps protect the region, ensuring a climate with very warm growth periods and misty autumn days – both excellent qualities for growing the kind of grapes that yield first-class wines.

The topography
The greater part of the region is criss-crossed by hills and valleys. The best Piedmont wines prosper on the slopes of the Monferrato Hills and the heights of the Langhe area.

The area is perfect for scenic walks and long hikes along isolated paths and little tracks. This is by far the best way to discover the beauty of the countryside.
